4/25/16: The Henrico County School Board will announce the new name on April 28! 3/10/16: WE DID IT! YOU DID IT! The School Board voted today to change the name of Harry Flood Byrd Middle School! Thank you to everyone who supported this - it was truly a community effort! In the summer of 2015, Anne-Marie Leake, the parent of a rising 6th grader at Byrd Middle School, and Jordan Chapman, a Hermitage High School student, began two independent efforts to encourage the Henrico County School Board to rename Harry Flood Byrd Middle School, due to Byrd's opposition to desegregation and the detrimental effect that his policy of Massive Resistance had on public education in Virginia. Several months later, Anne-Marie, Jordan, and other concerned citizens joined forces to continue the pursuit of this change.
